BARKER GYM

Rules of the Gym

At Barker, we follow the 3R's
We show that we are Respectful when we are listening, being kind, following instructions, helping others, and complimenting opponents.
We show that we are Responsible when we bring our clothes/shoes/water, clean up equipment, and follow directions the first time.
We show that we are Ready when we sit quietly, listen attentively, shoes are tied, and come with a positive attitude.

Missions of the Gym

Teacher- To prepare students to be successful by teaching them all of the necessary movements/skills that they need to be successful in sports/activities.
              - To give students the opportunities to try new activities and for students to gain an appreciation for being healthy and physically active all throughout their lives.
Students- Try your best in everything that you do!

Changing into Gym Clothes- Grade 5's (postponed)

Here at Barker, students in Grade 5 will start changing into appropriate gym clothes before coming into the gymnasium. Changing will be mandatory for students. If students do not bring their gym clothes, they will be asked to use the spare change of clothes that I will have on hand. These extra clothes have been purchased and donated to the school for this exact purpose. I will be collecting and continually washing these clothes after every use. Repetitive failure to bring one’s clothes can result in a phone call home.
We would appreciate it if you could send some clean clothes with your child in a gym bag or small pack. These clothes can include:
-           T-shirts
-           Shorts
-           Track pants
-           Sweat pants
-           Gym Shoes (mandatory)
-           Deodorant (optional but recommended)
-           (No strap-tops, muscle shirts, or body spray please)
It is important for students to practice proper hygienic routines and as well as to have them be comfortable in clothing that they can be physically active in. This will create opportunities for learning responsibility as students will need to bring their clothes to class as well as bring them home to be cleaned.
